Ryan Frank is a South African-born furniture designer now living and working in Barcelona. Since starting his business in 2005, Frank has become a leader in the field of sustainable design, renowned for his edgy "free-range" furniture. His work often includes cultural references to his African roots, givng Frank's collection a depth and texture not always found in contemporary design.

Sustainability is at the heart of Frank's work, starting with materials, which are the basis for his designs. He seeks out reliable sources of second-generation materials that can be re-used and brought back to life as functional objects. Frank seeks to achieve "default sustainability" in design through a life-cycle approach that extends beyond simply considering the function of an object, and takes into account where the object comes from (how it is made) and what will happen to it at the end of its life.
