Take a look. It's a thing of beauty featuring two swerving lines that mirror each other to create a symmetrical look. Developed by product design company, Hulger, in conjunction with designer Samuel Wilkinson, the Plumen 001 aims to show off the unique coil of a compact fluorescent bulb, rather than to hide it.

The Plumen 001 was the overall winner at the prestigious 2010 Brit Insurance Design Awards. According to Stephen Bayley, the 2011 jury chair, "the Plument lightbulb is a good example of the ordinary thing done extraordinarily well, bringing a small measure of delight to an everyday product."
