David Trubridge Design is continually doing all it can to reduce its environmental footprint. Located in New Zealand, with a global clientele, Trubridge has determined that reducing the volume of freight shipped out has the most impact and is something the company can do to help preserve New Zealand's land and sea environments.

This has led to the 2011 launch of the Seed System whereby a growing range of Trubridge's iconic lights are not available as kitsets, to be assembled by the end user. Packaging and shipping an increasing number of lights as kitsets results in about 1/40th the volume of the same assembled light, minimizing overall weight and reducing freight.

As part of the Seed System, 2011 has seen the release of the GROW range of kitsets: KOURA, KINA, and FLAX redesigned, and the introduction of HINAKI. Consistent with his design philosophy, Trubridge has taken inspiration from forms derived from nature, drawing on the flora and fauna of Australia and New Zealand: KOURA: fresh water shrimp; KINA: sea urchins; FLAX: an indigenous plant; and, HINAKI, a traditional fish trap.

Also available as kit sets are the ULU lights and the popular CORAL and FLORAL pendants.

New for 2011 are mini CORAL and FLORAL pendants. At 40cm diameter, they are perfect for smaller rooms and slightly lower ceilings and are gorgeous hung in a group. And a new colour has been introduced -- red -- it's spectacular!

Seed System -- Why fill a truck with one tree, when the cost to the Earth is reduced by packing in boxes of seed? You receive the seed of a lightshade, and have fun and satisfaction making it grow yourself. Your tree fills into the space; the patterns of its leaves calm with their shade. It nourishes with its fruit, and keeps the balance of life. The ideas ripple out and spreads to the world, which becomes a brighter place.
