After six years of studying fashion design, the dream career move for Marjorie Lebrèque Lepage, the founder of Velvet Moustache, was to start her own business. The question that remained, however, was what particular path she should follow. After a year of reflection, a friend asked her to design and make a unique stuffed animal. The experience was fun and creative and the jump from designing clothes to designing plush objects was a natural fit.

In the autumn of 2007 Velvet Moustache was born and Marjorie set about creating stuffed animals made from recycled materials, buttons collected by her grand-mother, and old t-shirts. In 2009, a meeting with a local textile manufacturer changed the course of the business as it became possible to make beautiful velvets and other materials right here in Montreal using organic cotton and recycled polyester.

Interest in the stuffed animals was immediate. Innovative, avant-garde and above all ethical, the pieces offered by Velvet Moustache have become more than simply play things, but incontrovertible design objects enjoyed by all ages.
